Roy Jones Jr. finally won another professional prize fight - against Prince Badi Ajamu in July. Can you believe that Roy had not won a fight since November of 2003? And even that win,
the first fight against Tarver, was a questionable decision that favored Roy. It's quite a relief to see a "W" on Roy's record, after three consecutive L's, which included two
devastating knockouts (of Roy). Can Roy Jones return to form this late in his career? He looked great against Ajamu, but he's far away
from the old Roy Jones who was once considered dominant, "unknockoutable" (to quote Roy), and even invincible.

Brief Roy Jones Jr. Bio
Roy Jones brings a rare combination of speed, power and agility into the ring. Add an unorthodox style that befuddles every opponent and you get the best pound for pound boxer in the world. What's more impressive is that his skills seem to have improved as he has made his way into his mid 30's. Starting as a middleweight, Jones took on a host of talent as he steamrolled his way through several weight classes. After dominating the super middleweight and light heavyweight divisions, Jones won the WBA Heavyweight belt despite entering the ring at just 193 pounds. Notches on Jones' belt include Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Virgil Hill, Lou Del Valle, Otis Grant, and Reggie Johnson. And of course, there was John Ruiz, who Jones easily outboxed to capture the WBA heavyweight title. But Roy's aura of invincibility came crashing down when fellow Floridian Antonio Tarver knocked him out in the second round on May 15th of 2004. Roy's decline
continued when unheralded Glencoffe Johnson KO'd him in the ninth round of their September 2004 fight.
|

- After dominating the competition at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea, Jones was robbed of the gold medal on a judging scandal. It is considered the most disgraceful and outrageous judging blunder in Olympic Games history.
- On June 15, 1996, just hours before taking on and defeating Canadian Eric Lucas, Jones played 15 minutes and scored six points in a semi-pro basketball game for the United States Basketball League Jacksonville Barracuda.
- Jones went through an entire round without being touched by Vinni Pazienza in their 1994 bout in Atlantic City. Roy finished off the Pazmanian Devil in the following round.
- Jones has only one physical weakness - his injury prone hands. Though his hands are lightning quick, Jones has admitted to refraining from going for the knockout in order to save his hands from further injury.
- In addition to raising roosters on his farm, Roy Jones has credited fighting cocks with influencing his boxing style. Using a taunt-move inspired by his fighting gamecocks, Roy enticed James Toney into opening himself up for a knockdown.
- Jones is just the second former middleweight champion since Bob Fitzsimmons in 1897 to capture a share of the heavyweight title.
- Jones is also an accomplished rapper and musician.
- Before getting KO'd by Antonio Tarver in the twilight of his career, Jones had never been licked in the ring, his only setback came on a controversial disqualification when he fired a glancing blow to Montell Griffin after he crouched on one knee to avoid a patented Jones onslaught.

Round One: The Album - by Roy Jones Jr Unsurprisingly, Roy Jones Jr.'s first foray into the recording studio yields a predictable series of raps that's often more off the mark than on. While the king of athletic finesse in the ring brings the same type of approach and professionalism to his work in the studio, "Round One The album" offers nothing new, interesting or insightful about the sport of boxing or Roy's own career. It serves mainly as a 60 minute long advertisement for Jones' accomplishments and ego. Jones uses a these tracks to remind us that he conquered mid-level fighters such as David Telesco. Yes, Roy can rap to a certain degree and he showcases some musical talent.
After a few songs into "Round One-The Album," it's clear that this is a collector's item for boxing fans. Roy, thanks for adding something different to my CD collection, but....don't quit your night job.
